The AWA (Alberta Whitewater Association) puts on a whitewater festival in Southern Alberta every May long weekend. There's fun whitewater paddling on three different rivers in the area. It's attended by lots of kayakers but they've been welcoming canoeists too. Registration through the AWA website: albertawhitewater.ca
