Ceyana Canoe Club
Over the years we try to paddle all the reaches of the Red Deer River and it has been sometime since we paddle the reaches above Drumheller. Last year we finished at the Tolman Bridge. I've been trying to book a group campground, but no luck, most campgrounds, especially the Morin Campground I would like to to use is only first come first serve including the group site(s). I'm thinking that at least a few of us should try to arrive on the Thursday afternoon, with tents (and license plate numbers) from those coming Friday, and try to nail down enough sites. Lois and I are coming up from Waterton Park and will be in the area by early Thursday.
The plan is to gather Thursday or Friday evening. Then we do day trips on the nearby reaches of the Red Deer river, these vary from about 14 to 20 kms. The river is consistently Class I with very little easy Class II water around gravel bars, some gravel bar chutes and the occasional large glacial erratic in the river.
We do cancel if it is ugly! Thunderstorms, big winds, major storm fronts in the forecast, high water >150 cms, etc. It is best to register so our leaders can send out timely instructions or cancellation!
